Huskey, Lilly

Lilly Mabel Huskey, 92, of De Soto died March 30, 2024, at Hillcrest Care Center in De Soto. Mrs. Huskey was a retired secretary and mail carrier for Pittsburgh Plate Glass. She had also worked at the De Soto Shoe Factory. She operated a daycare out of her home for 20 years, which she cared for hundreds of children. Later in life, she worked at the Jefferson Square Lodge and was an assistant activities director for Hillcrest Care Center. She was also an officer for the Oakland Baptist Cemetery Association for more than 40 years. She attended Oakland Baptist Church until 1982, at which point she joined the First Baptist Church of De Soto. Among other church responsibilities, she played piano and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for more than 75 years. Born July 18, 1931, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Sarah Mabel (Akins) and Harold Hearst Kingsland.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Donald Earl Huskey, whom she married June 7, 1952.

She is survived by five children: Raymond (Elaine) Huskey of De Soto, Jerry (Mary) Huskey of Jackson, Carolyn (Dan) Scott of De Soto, Lindell (Myrna) Huskey of Poplar Bluff and Donna (Willie) Isaacson of Richmond; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

She also was preceded in death by a sister: Nancy Apple; and two brothers: David and Frank Kingsland.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the funeral home, officiated by Dr. Brad Delaughter. Burial will be in Oakland Baptist Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oakland Baptist Cemetery Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
