A Pevely man has been charged in connection with an alleged assault after a man was found injured and naked in a wooded area in Pevely.
According to court documents, Raymond Earl Fasnacht III, 62, has been charged with first degree assault-serious physical injury, armed criminal action, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful use of a weapon.
As of today, Aug. 5, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records show.
Pevely Police Chief Jamie Mayberry said the victim, a 30-year-old homeless man, had serious injuries and said he had been hiding in the woods for five days after the attack.
The department issued a written statement Aug. 4, saying law enforcement found the victim the night of July 30 in a wooded area. He was transported to Mercy Hospital Jefferson for treatment and while there identified his attacker to Pevely Police.
According to the probable-cause statement filed in the case and information supplied by the Pevely Police, the victim told police Fasnacht “injected him with narcotics, shot him with an Airsoft rifle and (tortured) him several times with a knife.”
The victim further alleges in the statement “this was a weird new sex game which (Fasnacht) created. The victim stated after (Fasnacht) tortured him and injected him with the narcotics, (Fasnacht) had him run from a ground blind, commonly used by hunters, in a wooded area near (Fasnacht’s) residence.”
The victim said he had spent approximately in the woods hiding from Fasnacht before law enforcement found him.
The statement also said Pevely Police executed a search warrant at Fasnacht’s residence and several items were seized, including a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun, an Airsoft handgun, a BB rifle, several knives and possible narcotics.

A man who was found naked and seriously injured in a wooded area in Pevely was able to help to police officers arrest his attacker, the Pevely Police Department reported.
The department issued a written statement today, Aug. 4, saying law enforcement found the victim the night of July 30 in a wooded area. The man was transported to Mercy Hospital Jefferson for treatment.
The report said the victim, a 30-year-old homeless man, told officers he had been injected with narcotics and sustained multiple cuts from an edged weapon. In addition, the victim had been shot multiple times with an airsoft-type weapon.
“He’s got serious injuries,” Police Chief Jamie Mayberry said. “He has lacerations all over his body.”
According to the police report, the victim was able to escape from the attacker and fled to a nearby wooded area where he remained hidden for an unknown period of time before law enforcement found him. The victim was found “nude, delirious and suffering from exhaustion,” the report said.
Mayberry said the victim identified the suspect as a 62-year-old Pevely man who was arrested July 31 at his home without incident. Investigators seized items including narcotics and a sawed-off shotgun in the suspect’s home, the report said.
Mayberry said his department is seeking charges against the suspect that include first-degree assault; armed criminal action; two counts of possession of a controlled substance; possession of an illegal weapon and unlawful use of a weapon.
The suspect is being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond, Mayberry said.
