Two Jefferson County men have been accused of stealing air conditioning unit parts from an Arnold-area flooring company’s building and flooring tools from a van parked outside the business, according to court documents.
Gary Elsworth Medlock, 48, of Arnold and Michael Mark Tayon, 48, of Imperial have each been charged with two counts of felony second-degree burglary, three counts of felony stealing and one count of first-degree property damage for allegedly stealing air conditioning parts, court records said.
Medlock was arrested on Sept. 11, and as of Sept. 15, he was being held on a $2,000 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 3, according to court and jail records.
Tayon was arrested on Aug. 12. He was being held on a $28,000 bond at the Jefferson County Jail, court and jail documents show.
According to the probable-cause statement filed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Medlock and Tayon were seen in surveillance video about 1:30 a.m. March 25 arriving in a white 2017 Ford Fiesta at what was then Luminous Flooring, 2030 Southway Drive, south of Arnold. The business is now Enhanced Wood Floor Services.
The two allegedly stole parts from an air conditioning unit attached to the building, and they also stole tools from a 2019 Ford Transit van. The estimated value of the stolen parts and tools were each more than $750, the report said.
Using surveillance video and the Flock license-plate reading camera system, investigators identified Medlock as the owner of the Fiesta. Deputies stopped the car at about 5:25 a.m. March 25 in a parking lot near Jeffco Boulevard and Dudler Drive in Arnold, north of the flooring company, according to the report.
Deputies allegedly found air conditioning parts that appeared to come from the damaged unit at the company’s building. Investigators also learned the two dropped off flooring tools at a home in the 2400 block of Starling Airport Road shortly before being stopped by police, the report said.
Investigators also discovered Medlock used his phone to search the internet for flooring tools, and Tayon allegedly had images of the stolen tools on his cell phone, according to the report.
