Lawrence Franklin Casey, 91, of Herculaneum died Feb. 18, 2024, at Crystal Oaks Nursing Home in Crystal City. Mr. Casey was a graduate of Douglas High School in Festus and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was post commander of the Korean War Veterans Association in Antonia and a member of the American Legion 253. He worked as a machinist for 37 years, starting in 1955, at Doe Run in Herculaneum. He was a member of Buren Chapel AME Church where he was a Deacon and treasurer. He also was director of the Herculaneum Sewer Board from 1985 until 2005. Mr. Casey was an avid golfer, bowler, softball player and umpire and coin collector. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes, and watching baseball and hockey. He also was a big Kansas City Chiefs fan. He will be remembered for his kind heart. Born Nov. 23, 1932, in Herculaneum, he was the son of the late Anna (Wells) and William Casey.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Mary (Jackson) Casey.
He is survived by six children: Lawrence (Nicole) Casey II, Danita Rakers, Kana Smith, Charita Bingham, Dwayne Wingo and Dale Frank; 13 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Alicia, Alexis, Courtney, Haley, Shannon, Antijuanne, Carneysha, Chantal, Aarrius, Alisha, Cortez and Darreis; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a brother: David Lee Casey; and a grandson: Antario.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Burial with full military honors will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to Buren Chapel AME Church of Herculaneum. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
