Clark, Janet

Janet L. (Eckenfels) Clark, 91, of Fenton died March 27, 2024. Mrs. Clark grew up in south St. Louis. After she and her husband moved to their home in Fenton in 1962, she worked in banking and retail. She had a long career with Zales Jewelers, beginning as the office manager at the South County location and then as a credit supervisor and auditor. She was the first, and for many years only, female creditor supervisor and auditor for Zales. She was a partner in all her husband’s endeavors, including an amusement business they co-owned for many years. She was an active member of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Fenton since 1959. She was involved in St. Ann’s Sodality, a chairwoman of the Easter Monday card party, an organist and she founded and organized St. Paul’s senior choir. She was an avid bowler who had belonged to multiple leagues when she was younger, bowling at Fenton Lanes and Redbird Lanes. She participated in many bowling tournaments and won numerous trophies. Born Dec. 9, 1932, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Augusta (Bigalke) and Charles Eckenfels.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years: Paul A. Clark, whom she married April 21, 1952; two children: Paula Spatafora of Pevely and Stacy (John Johnston) Moore of Chelsea, Iowa; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Scott) Kaufman, Samuel Spatafora, Chadwick Geimer, Victoria (Barry) Muilenburg and Emily (Leo) Denny; six great-grandchildren: Tyler (Ashley), Hayden, Noah, Sonny (Zoe), Madison and Amelia; three great-great-grandchildren: Jaxson, Parker and Wesley; and numerous family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by five siblings: Mildred (Richard) Staley, Wilber Eckenfels, Marie (Henry Sr.) Zeni, Delores (William) Steiner and Joan (John Sr.) Ragan.

Visitation is scheduled from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Fieser Funeral Home, 401 Gravois Road, in Fenton. Funeral services are scheduled from 10 a.m. until a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, at the St. Paul Catholic Church, 15 Forest Knoll Drive, in Fenton. Burial will follow at New St. Marcus Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fieser Funeral Home.
