James Patrick Knott, 85, of Imperial died June 27, 2026. Mr. Knott, known as Pat to his family and Jim to his friends, was raised in Wilhelmina and came to St. Louis for high school before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN‑65) during its maiden voyage as the world’s first nuclear‑powered aircraft carrier. As part of its crew, he traveled the world and carried those experiences with him. After his service, he returned to the St. Louis area and became a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Parish. He was always on the move, held many interests and made connections wherever he went. He especially enjoyed bowling, golfing and barbecuing. One of his greatest pleasures was sitting on his back swing, visiting with those who stopped by, sharing stories and enjoying good company. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, laughter and love of family. Born June 13, 1941, in Wilhelmina, he was the son of the late James and Virgie (Horrell) Knott.
He is survived by his wife: Edna Mae (Bader) Knott; three children: Kerry (Kathy), Jeff (Julie), and Tammy (Allen) Isgrigg; seven grandchildren: Austin, Annabella, Andrew, Aliana, Callie, Adelina and Gus; two bonus grandsons: Allen and Dean; a sister and close friend: Rita Brown; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: William “Buck,” Sr. Mary Mercedes, O.S.U. “Kate,” Sr. Jamesetta, O.S.U. “Minnie,” Mary “Red,” Mable and Charlie.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, July 5, at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, in St. Louis County. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, July 6, at St. Joseph Parish, 6020 Old Antonia Road, in Imperial. Private interment will take place in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Lung Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Hoffmeister South County Chapel.
