James Michael “Mike” Boyd, 77, of Imperial died March 9, 2025, at his home after an almost four-year battle with glioblastoma. Mr. Boyd grew up in Farmington and was the second youngest in a family of six children. After serving in the U.S. Army, including two tours of duty during the Vietnam War, he worked for Natural Gas Co./Laclede Gas Co. for 36 years. He was known to his friends and family as a “get-it-done” kind of guy as he could fix and rebuild cars, do home repairs and would often lend a helping hand to others. He took pride in his home and lawn. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Imperial and spent many years volunteering at Sister Christine’s Food Pantry. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and attending their sporting events and celebrating their milestones. He passed down his love of craftsmanship and quick wit to his grandsons. He will be remembered for his strength, kindness and wisdom. Born Jan. 14, 1948, he was the son of the late Robert and Glenda Josephine (Belken) Boyd.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years: Sidney Elaine (Brady) Boyd; two children: Gregory Michael (Christy) Boyd and Melissa Jane Boyd (Lee) Findley; five grandchildren: Paul Henry Goessling, Peyton Boyd, Andrew Findley, Parker Goessling and Alexandra Findley, who helped care for Mr. Boyd; a brother: Charles (Rita) Boyd; a sister: Jane (Boyd) Early; two sisters-in-law: Mary Lou (Klinkhardt) Brady and Alicia “Gray” Boyd; a brother-in-law: Doug Jones; two bonus grandsons: Paul Henry and Parker; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents-in-law: Elroy and LaVerne Brady; two brothers: Robert “Bob” and George; a sister: Mary (Boyd) Jones; three brothers-in-law: Allen Early, Gary Galemore and Elroy Brady; and two sisters-in-law: Barbara Boyd and Nancy (Brady) Galemore.
The family would like to thank Mr. Boyd’s caregiver, Ted. Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6020 Old Antonia Road, in Imperial, officiated by Father Dan Shaughnessy. Inurnment will be in Shepherd Hills Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Sister Christine’s Food Pantry at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Tunnel to Towers or a charity of the donor’s choice.
