Douglas Eugene “Doug” Harris, 69, of Herculaneum died July 25, 2026. Mr. Harris retired from the Veterans Administration after many years working as an A/C equipment mechanic and was a longtime member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES). He loved quality time with his family, taking care of and being a Paw-Paw to his grandkids. He also loved listening to music, spending time outdoors with his wife and rooting on the St. Cardinals. When his family was younger, he enjoyed helping coach Little League baseball, camping and going on family vacations. Born Nov. 30, 1956, in Hutchinson, Kan., he was the son of the late Charles Douglas and Lavina “Buibs” (Connors) Harris.
He is survived by his wife: Christine M. (Heidebur) Harris; four children: Cody (Cassie) Harris, Pam Williams, Calvin “C.J.” Lankford and James “Jim” (Carol) Lankford; five grandchildren: Allirinda “Alli” Bishop, Jasper and Leland Lankford, Paisley Harris and Allison Nelson; siblings-in-law: Butch and Ursula Wanko, Bud Heidebur, Kevin and Shelly Heidebur and Michelle “Miki” Harris; nephews: Brad and Jake Harris; and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Timothy “Tim” Harris.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home South County Chapel, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road, in St. Louis County. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, July 31, also at the funeral home. Interment will be private in Herculaneum Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital Foundation, St. Louis Children's Hospital Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home South County Chapel.
