Carl “Rocky” Backus, 74, of Hillsboro died April 23, 2025, in Festus. Mr. Backus worked as a Local 6 Beer Brewer for Anheuser-Busch, and in his free time he enjoyed building hot rods and working in the yard. Born Oct. 12, 1950, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Carl August Backus and Eleanor Jean (Roeder) Backus.
He is survived by his wife of more than 52 years: Ellen Celeste (Davis) Backus of Hillsboro; a sister: Sherrill (Ron) Placial of St. Louis; a father-in-law: Chester (Bonny) Davis of Grass Valley, Calif.; a brother-in-law: Mathew Davis of St. Louis; three sisters-in-law: Eve (Jimmy) Fletcher of Hillsboro, Elaine (Jim) McDonald of Leesburg, Fla., and Kathleen (Greg) Lee of Festus; four nieces: Emma Lee, Anna Lee, Ruth Lee and Molly McDonald; two nephews: Nick Fletcher and Zach Fletcher; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a mother-in-law: Sue Davis.
Services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home in De Soto.
