Andrea England Braun, 77, of St. Louis died April 22, 2024, at her home. Mrs. Braun grew up in De Soto and held bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a national fraternity recognizing high attainment of liberal arts scholarship. She later earned her Doctor of Philosophy in English in 1994 from St. Louis University. She was an adjunct faculty member at several institutions of higher learning, including Webster University where she was director of what was then known as the Freshman Seminar Program from 2001 to 2004. She was nominated for the William T. Kemper Award for excellence in teaching. She also taught at St. Louis University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. For many years she reviewed St. Louis theatre for several media outlets and was known for her wit, humor, writing and perceptive but gentle criticism. She is remembered for her straightforward but caring disposition and her generous nature. Born Feb. 21, 1947, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Dava Lee (Mothershead) and Andrew H. England.
She is survived by her husband: David Braun of St. Louis; a child: Joanna Braun Ackermann of St. Louis; and three grandchildren: Katie, Andy and Elise Ackermann, all of St. Louis.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main, in De Soto, officiated by David Braun. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to Autism Speaks or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
