Matthew Curtis, 24, of Illinois, formerly of Fenton, died April 1, 2018, in Bethalto, Ill. Mr. Curtis was a safety inspector with Team Industrial Services. He loved playing video games next to his best friend and companion, Alice. Born May 23, 1993, in St. Charles, he was the son of Christine (Harris) Curtis of Fenton and David (fiance Stacie McNamara) Curtis of Bethalto, Ill.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister and best friend: Elizabeth “Liz” Curtis of Fenton; a brother: Casey (Ashley) Curtis of Wichita, Kan.; his grandmother: Elisabeth “Lisa” Curtis of Bethalto; an aunt: Brenda (Dave) Gibbons of Bethalto; three uncles: Raymond (Melanie) Curtis of Dupo, Ill., Gregory Harris of Athens, Ga., and Frank Janoski of St. Louis; six cousins: Alex Curtis, Amelia Johnson, Sydney Curtis, Lexi Curtis, Joe Gibbons and Julie Gibbons; a nephew: Blaine Curtis; two stepsiblings: Morgan McNamara of Bethalto and Mackenzie (Travis) Morgan of St. Louis; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Corey Curtis; his aunt and godmother: Debra Harris Janoski; and four grandparents: Richard “Sarge” Curtis, Dr. Gilbert D. Harris, Julia Henson-Harris and Robert Bussey.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Elias, Kallal and Schaff Funeral Home, 727 E. Bethalto Blvd., in Bethalto, Ill. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, at the funeral home, officiated by Father Linus Umoren. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Elias, Kallal and Schaff Funeral Home.
