Mary Rebecca “Becky” Canepa, 81, of Festus died March 1, 2021, at The Arbors in Ste. Genevieve. Ms. Canepa was a retired teacher, having spent her entire 34-year career at Festus Elementary School. She was a member of Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus and a longtime volunteer with the Festus Public Library, where she served as a board member for 26 years. She was born Oct. 17, 1939, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Velma (Alzire) and Wiley Joseph Canepa.
She is survived by her extended family, including her cousins: Louise (Robert) Boyer of Festus, James (Laurie) Manley of Plano, Texas, Thomas (Mindy) Manley of Defiance and Mary Lou LaFloure of Crystal City; her caregiver: Michelle (Greg) Spencer of Festus; and numerous friends, co-workers and former students.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother: Vincent Vaughn Canepa; and two cousins: Martha (the late Richard) Perry and Wiley C. “Pat” LaFloure.
Visitation is scheduled from 3:30-7 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main, in Festus. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 6, at Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus, officiated by Father Gregory Klump. Burial will take place at a later date in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Festus Public Library, the Alzheimer’s Association or in the form of Masses in Mrs. Canepa’s honor. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
