Marcella J. Weaver, 81, of De Soto died Feb. 3, 2015, at the Crystal Oaks Rehabilitation Facility in Crystal City. Mrs. Weaver was an office manager for Manpower, a substitute teacher and a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Samuel Brown Temple AME Zion, Eastern Star, Deaconess, Missionary Ministry, the Jefferson-Franklin Community Action Corporation’s board of directors for more than 13 years. She was named Jefferson College’s Alumnus of the Year in 1995. Born March 2, 1933, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Fannie M. (Cotter) and Rev. Milford Vaughn Sr.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years: Waverly Weaver Jr.; six children: Julie Ann Weaver of Henderson, Nev., Clarence (Brynda) Mason of De Soto; Phillip (Margaret) Weaver of Columbia, S.C., Mark (Sharon) Weaver of Festus; Kevin (Susan) Weaver of De Soto and Patrick (Deborah) Weaver of De Soto; four siblings: Alvah, Marilyn and Carolyn Vaughn, all of St. Louis, and Samuel Vaughn of Pittsburgh, Calif.; 16 grandchildren: Michael and Brian Mason, Victor, Edward and Marcel Cage, Elliot, Nathan, Audrey, Aurielle, Jessica, Alexis and P.J. Weaver, Tajuana and James Cherry, Adrienne Cadmey and Joshua Stokes; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons: Edward Mason and Steven V. Weaver; and three siblings: Geraldine Kazee, Milford Vaughn and Doris Sharp.
Funeral services were held Feb. 7 at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Ron Luellen. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements were under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
