Lindsey, Julia

Julia Jeanette “Janie” Harshaw-Lindsey, 90, of Ironton died Dec. 29, 2020, at the Baptist Home in Ironton. Mrs. Harshaw-Lindsey had worked as a beautician and retired as a supervisor for the Division of Family Services. Born May 30, 1930, in Vineland, she was the daughter of the late Mary Alice and Melvin John Courtois Sr. She was preceded in death by two husbands: Norman Earl “Pete” Harshaw, to whom she was married for 39 years, and Wilfred Lindsey, to whom she was married for 31 years.

She is survived by two children: Richard Harshaw of Phoenix, Ariz., and Barbara Coleman of O’Fallon; three stepchildren: Sherry Lindsey of O’Fallon, Dave Lindsey of De Soto and Paul Lindsey of Festus; two siblings: Glenda (David) Maupin of De Soto and Sally (the late Roy) Swaringim of De Soto; a brother-in-law: Al Wilkinson of De Soto; a sister-in-law: Pat Courtois of De Soto; four grandchildren: Sara (Scott) Shimmin of Phoenix, Ariz., Christi Coleman of Imperial, Carrie (Christopher) Thomson of O’Fallon and Julia Eaton of Kansas City; seven great-grandchildren: Connor Flaherty of Imperial, Colin (Christi) Flaherty of Imperial, Dylan Thomason of O’Fallon, Ryan (Carrie) Thomason of O’Fallon, Luke Shimmin of Phoenix,  Noelle (Sara) Shimmin of Phoenix and Alexis (Julia) Eaton of Kansas City; six step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister: Gloria Wilkinson; and two brothers: Melvin John “Bob” Courtois Jr. and David Elmer Smith.

A memorial gathering will be at 10:30 a.m. and a celebration of life at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Grace River Church, 1913 Trade Center Dr., in St. Peters, officiated by Chris Highfill. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
