John B. Wood, 74, Victoria
John B. Wood, 74, of Victoria died June 13, 2022, at his home. Mr. Wood was retired after working as the De Soto fire chief and as a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department deputy. He enjoyed spending time with family and his dog, Oshie; classic cars, especially ‘57 Chevys; feeding and watching birds and other animals; being outdoors; and watching old westerns and the show “Cops.” Born March 16, 1948, in Paragould, Ark., he was the son of the late Savilla (Edger) and Hilrie Wood.
He is survived by his wife: Nancy (Nicholson) Wood, whom he married in August 1967 at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in De Soto; as well as two children: Sean Wood of Kansas City and Lori Wood of Victoria.
He also is survived by four siblings: Barb Mayo of De Soto, Faye Lawson of Lansing, Mich., Carolyn Price of Jonesboro, Ark., and Margie Bodell of Charlotte, Mich.; and three grandchildren: Madison, McKinley and Zoe Wood.
He was preceded in death by eight siblings: Mildred Waugh, Marie Crocker, Helen Bryant, Betty Roundtree, and Frank, Travis, Gerald and David Wood.
A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until a funeral service at 7 p.m. today, June 15, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main, in De Soto, officiated by the Rev. Harold Long. Burial will be in Pine Log Cemetery in Brookland, Ark. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
