James L. Bernhardt Sr., 82, of Fenton died Aug. 2, 2021. Mr. Bernhardt was a longtime member of the Fenton Lions Club and was a district governor. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, Cardinals baseball and gambling. Born Jan. 29, 1939, in Blackwell, he was the son of the late Addie (Brod) and George Bernhardt.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Bernhardt; two children: Vicki (Todd) Cross and James Bernhardt Jr.; two stepchildren: Jill (Chuck) Ketterer and Craig (Jane) Rutledge; nine grandchildren: Monica, Lindsey, Rachael, Zoe, Isabel, Olivia, Sophia, Ethan and Wyatt; three great-grandchildren: Amelia, Abigail and Valerie; and numerous family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by three siblings: Virgil Bernhardt, George Bernhardt and Virginia Dunnegan.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill, followed immediately by funeral services with a Lions Club rose ceremony. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
