Vaughn, James

James Huit Vaughn, 86, of De Soto died April 23, 2017, at his home. Mr. Vaughn was a maintenance supervisor for the Missouri Department of Transportation and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro. Hewas a member of the C.I.A. Hall and a volunteer with the De Soto Food Pantry, and enjoyed playing drums and singing, especially at the Tuesday night jam sessions at the De Soto Community Center. Born June 26, 1930, in Tupelo, Miss., he was the son of the late Albis and Corde (Fowler) Vaughn.

He is survived by his wife: Dolores (Smallen) Vaughn of De Soto; five sons: James (Julie) Vaughn of St. Charles, Sam Johnson of De Soto, Daniel (Bonnie) Johnson of St. Louis, Richard Johnson of St. Louis and Nathan (Toni) Johnson of House Springs; a daughter: Michelle (Steve) DenBow of Cedar Hill; two sisters: Christine Hamric of West Point, Miss., and Evelyn (Sammy) Carson of Tupelo, Miss.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his first wife: Ima Jean Vaughn; two daughters: Patricia Schuster and Peggy Vaughn; and a brother-in-law: Quinon Hamric.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main, in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at the funeral home, officiated by Brother Jimmy Turner. Burial is in the Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro, 10545 Business Hwy. 21, Hillsboro, 63050; or to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674. Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
