Gary D. Hopkins, 72, Dittmer

Gary D. Hopkins, 72, of Dittmer died Sept. 24, 2017, at his home. Mr. Hopkins was the founder and co-partner of WS Metals Recycling in Cedar Hill, and he served in the Army Reserves in the late 1960s. He was the past exalted ruler of the Cedar Hill Elks Lodge, from 1900-1991.

Born June 23, 1945, in Friedheim, he was the son of the late Grace and Lee Hopkins. He is survived by his companion and best friend of 14 years: Sue Dennison of Dittmer; a daughter: Kelly (Vince) Reed of Dittmer; a son: Scott Hopkins of De Soto; a stepdaughter: Kelly Bielik of Dittmer; a brother: William (Linda) Hopkins of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren: Mandy, Matt and Tim Noah; Brendan, Kerry, Patrick and Olivia Bielik; and Regan Hopkins; two great-grandchildren: Tegan and Sophia Noah; a sister-in-law: Norma Hopkins; and several nieces and nephews, including: Mike, Kim and Shannon Bailey; Bobby and Randall Hopkins; and Billy, Mike and Jeff Hopkins.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Leatha Hopkins and Carol Bailey; a brother: Robert Hopkins; a brother-in-law: Jerry Bailey; and a niece: Dawn Bailey.

Mr. Hopkins’s family is planning a celebration of life together in the near future.
