Sweet, Edward

Edward Milton Sweet Sr., 91, of Crystal City died Jan. 29, 2015, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Sweet was a retired glassworker with Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Crystal City and a member of Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force who was awarded six Bronze Stars, and was a member of VFW Post 3777 and Plattin Rock Boat Club. Born April 13, 1923, in Crystal City, he was the son of the late Agnes (Boyer) and Clarence Sweet.

He is survived by his wife: Virginia (Baker) Sweet; two sons: Edward Sweet Jr. of Ballwin and Darrell (Leslie) Sweet of Lenexa, Kan.; five grandchildren: Marci (James) Perry, Lauren (John) Sweet-Schuler, T.J. Sweet, Nicole Sweet and Eric Sweet; and two great-grandchildren: Jake and Madison Sadler.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Visitation is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main, in Festus. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at the funeral home, officiated by Deacon Jerry Stoverink. Burial with full military honors will be held at the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
