Edward Joseph Meyer Sr., 89, of Springfield, formerly of Arnold, died April 12, 2023. Mr. Meyer served in the U.S. Army at the end of the Korean War. He was a welder at Frank Adams, earning the nickname “Boo Boo” while he learned the trade. He had a passion for inventing, including the “easy berry cleaner” that he welded and kept up with current events and the stock market. His family remembers him as a friendly, positive and happy person. Born April 23, 1933, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Maria Anna (Kirn) and Charles Francis Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years: Joan Alice Meyer.
He is survived by two children: Joan (Gary) McLarry of Springfield and Ed (Michele) Meyer of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; three grandchildren: Lauren (Gavin) Taylor of Ozark, Ben (Kate Lindsey) McLarry of Nixa and Erin (Chris) Wiser of Battlefield; two great-grandchildren: Corbin Taylor and Caden Taylor; three siblings: Dorothy (Tony) Budlond of Carmel, Calif., Shirley Knorpp of St. Louis and Raymond (Sondra) Meyer of Menlo Park, Calif.; and numerous family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son: Bob Meyer; and five siblings: Hubert Meyer, Wilbert Meyer, Adolph Meyer, Francis Meyer and Rosemary Chartrand.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home, 1081 Jeffco Blvd., Arnold. Funeral Mass will be from 9-10 a.m. Friday, April 21, at St. David Catholic Church, 2334 Tenbrook Road, Arnold. Burial will be at the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Society or the Parkinson’s Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home.
