Donald Leslie Schwartz, 78, of Waterloo, Ill., formerly of Imperial died June 20, 2021, at Cedarhurst Assisted Living in Waterloo. Mr. Schwartz was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a machinist for Monsanto. He enjoyed building houses, collecting guns, gunsmithing, Oreo cookies, animals and spending time with family and friends. Born Nov. 22, 1942, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Pearl (Tinius) and Joseph Schwartz.
He is survived by his daughter: Donna (Gerry) Gudmestad of Waterloo; a sister: Kay (Ben) Johnson of Pevely; a sister-in-law: Iris Schwartz of Hillsboro; four grandchildren: Paige Allison Gudmestad, Evan (Jenny) Gudmestad, Scott Gudmestad and Michelle Gudmestad; and a great-grandchild: Ellie Gudmestad.
He was preceded in death by a twin brother: Ronald Schwartz.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 29, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Wayne Kuenzle. Burial will be in Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart. Memorials may be made to the Open Door Animal Sanctuary, 6065 Duda Road, House Springs MO 63051. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
