David Lee Kurtz, 63, of Florissant died July 21, 2020, in St. Louis. Mr. Kurtz was retired from the John J. Steuby Co. He served in the Missouri Air National Guard for more than 19 years, spending his time with the 131st Fighter Wing out of Lambert International Airport and attaining the rank of E7 Master Sergeant. He attended Garfield Elementary School and Roosevelt High School. Also known as “Cabbie Dave,” he enjoyed spending time with his family, usually laughing, telling Dad jokes and drinking Busch beer. He liked inventing words and never hesitated to help someone in need. Born Jan. 29, 1957, in Florissant, he was the son of the late Charlotte Phillip and David Kurtz Sr.

He is survived by three children: Christie (Jeff) Stuart of Fenton, Katherine Kurtz of Eureka and Carolyn Kurtz of House Springs; seven grandchildren: Kaylie, Jeffrey and Nathan Stuart of Fenton, Uriah and Tristan Johnson of Eureka and Ahnysa and Petra Asta of House Springs;

nine siblings: Charlotte Kurtz Hemmy, Vicki Kurtz Frazier, Ronni Kurtz, Otto Kurtz, Kevin Kurtz, Deni Kurtz, Jay Kurtz, Dawn Kurtz Zuber and Debbie Kurtz; and numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather: Donald Jost; and best friend: Ron Philipp.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Shaggy Piano, 7970 Old State Rt. 21, in Barnhart. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
