Geitz, Clarence

Clarence Geitz, 81, of Cedar Hill died July 11, 2019. Mr. Geitz was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 513 for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Model A Ford Club of America and the Horseless Carriage Club of America and loved going to old car shows and farm equipment and tractor shows. He always enjoyed his trip to Mount Pleasant, Iowa to the steam engine shows. He enjoyed fishing, camping and boating, enjoyed his farm and loved showing horses with his daughters and granddaughters. He played the accordion and harmonica and loved going to church picnics where he enjoyed playing music. He played the role of Santa for more than 44 years. Born Jan. 8, 1938, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Louis Jacob and Clara (Speck) Geitz.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Bernadine “Bernie” (Fushs) Geitz; two children: Dianne Geitz  and Gail (Ronald) Manning; two granddaughters: Amanda Manning and Emily Manning; a brother: Alfred Geitz; a sister-in-law: Lois Geitz; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Lester Geitz; and a sister-in-law: Dorothy Geitz.

Visitation is scheduled from 3:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, July 15, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the funeral home. Burial is in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
