Bruce Lloyd Brown, 70, of Fulton, formerly of Barnhart, died April 22, 2019, in St. Louis. Mr. Brown completed school at Hillsboro High, and then wanderlust took him to California, Canada and Florida. He eventually returned to Missouri, where he worked on the Mississippi River towboats, met his wife and joined Local 396 as an ironworker. He and his wife relocated an antique log cabin to their farmland in Boydsville, where they raised their son. Later, Mr. Brown’s career with Alberici brought the family to St. Louis, where they renovated a brownstone in the Soulard neighborhood. Mr. Brown traveled throughout North America, lived on a sailboat, hunted for fossils, and spent his weekends on his bike or in his canoe. At one point, he worked with his son in Newfoundland. During retirement, Mr. Brown bought a cider factory in a Missouri river town and lived and worked there until his death.
Born Aug. 13, 1948, in Baden, he was the son of the late Billy Lloyd Brown and Betty Lee (Hitchings) Brown.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Dee Brown; one son: Street Lloyd Brown; two sisters: Janice Lee Kempa and Ellen Marie Smith.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Douglas James Brown and Scott Allen Brown.
A memorial gathering will be from 3-8 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at John L. Ziegenhein & Sons Funeral Home, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road, in south St. Louis County. The family encourages people to donate platelets in Mr. Brown’s memory. Arrangements are under the direction of John L. Ziegenhein & Sons Funeral Home.
