Woman drives Lexus into wet concrete on Richardson

Here's a photo from Jeffco 411's Facebook page that shows a car that a woman drove into wet concrete on Richardson Road, where road work is underway.

A woman drove a car into wet concrete Thursday morning (May 5) in the 1900 block of Richardson Road in Arnold, where a new section of the road had just been poured.

Arnold Public Works director Ed Blattner said he had heard that the woman was late for a dentist appointment, so she was in a hurry and apparently wasn’t paying attention and drove through an area surrounded by cones where crews had just poured concrete.

The car, an Infinity, got stuck in the concrete, so a tow truck from K&K Car Repair in Arnold was called to pull her out, Blattner said.

He said the construction crew was able to pour more wet concrete and smooth out the area the woman drove into, but he’s sure the construction company, Spencer Contracting Co. in Arnold, will submit a claim to the woman’s insurance company to be reimbursed for the extra material and work.

Blattner said the woman also will be billed for the tow truck service.

He said the accident didn’t slow down the project too much, which should be completed by the middle or end of this month.

Until then, Blattner is advising motorists to avoid Richardson Road if possible.

The road, which is lined with businesses, usually has a lot of traffic, so there’s been a lot of congestion during the construction project, which began at the end of March.

“I’ll be happy when it’s over,” Blattner said.

The project calls for the replacement of concrete slabs along a stretch of the road between Jeffco Boulevard and the Richardson Place apartments.

Those road repairs will cost $380,870.81.

In addition to some slabs being replaced, some new curbs will be built, and sidewalks will be repaired.

Some drainage pipe will be installed, too, he said.

The city budgeted $400,000 for the project, so if the Richardson Road repairs don’t cost more than what was contracted, there may be enough money left to replace some concrete slabs on Arnold-Tenbrook Road near Jeffco Boulevard, Blattner said.

After the concrete work is finished on Richardson, the city will ask for bids to restripe the roads, he said.
