Windsor High School celebrate last year’s homecoming dance. This year’s homecoming game is set for Friday, and the dance will be held Saturday.

The 2023 Windsor High School homecoming activities will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23, and will include at least one new wrinkle, as well as the return of a bonfire, something that had been missing for years.

The annual homecoming parade and football game are set for Friday, and the homecoming dance will be held Saturday evening.

This year’s homecoming theme is “Once Upon a Homecoming.”

Joann Marty, the adviser for the Windsor High School Student Council, said a new feature will be an alumni tent open during the Owls’ football game against De Soto at 7 p.m. at Windsor’s stadium.

“We will have an alumni tent at the game where alumni can come enjoy food and drink from the Student Council,” Marty said. “It will be a nice place to visit with old friends.”

The cost to attend the game is $3 for adults and $2 for students and seniors.

Before the start of the game, Windsor High School will introduce the 2023 homecoming court, as well as announce this year’s king and queen.

The homecoming court includes freshmen Delaney Deranja and Casen Siegel; sophomores Emma Williams and Caleb Haegele; and juniors Elise Mayfield and Cole Scott.

Seniors vying for king and queen are Lynsey Benn and Griffin Graves; Katie Moore and Nick Baer; Michelle Stefanus and Jameson Krupp; and Madison Williams and Brenton Shirk.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. Sept. 22 at Windsor Elementary, 6003 Fifth St., in Kimmswick and will proceed along Hwy. K and then south on Hwy. 61-67 and onto Windsor Harbor Road, ending at the football stadium. The parade grand marshal is Roland Evans, a former maintenance worker for the district.

“He retired last year and the students and staff just adored him,” Marty said.

She said the homecoming dance will once again be held on the football field. The school began holding the dance outside during the COVID-19 pandemic and it was well-received, Marty said.

“We’ve just kept it there,” she said. “I think (the students) like that it’s more spacious than in the school gym. It’s cooler and more comfortable.”

In the event of inclement weather, the dance will be moved into the Windsor High School gymnasium.

She said Windsor is bringing back an old activity, but it is strictly for students and staff.

“On Thursday evening (Sept. 21), we will have a bonfire,” Marty said. “We haven’t done one in about 15 years. It will be by the softball field.”
