The man accused of fatally stabbing his wife in Jefferson City and fleeing with their child on Monday has been charged with murder.

Malang Jan Akbari, 46, is charged with first degree murder, armed criminal action and endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the death of Akbari's wife at their family home in Jefferson City on Monday.

The incident also resulted in an Amber Alert being issued for their 18-month-old son, who was missing from the residence at the time law enforcement arrived, according to a news release from Cole County Prosecuting Attorney Locke Thompson.

Jefferson City Police Department officers responded to the residence in the 1100 block of East McCarty Street after receiving a 911 call stating that the victim was found bleeding and unresponsive, according to the news release.

Akbari's wife was pronounced dead on scene, and Akbari was later taken into custody in Pettis County without incident, according to the news release.

Akbari's 18-month-old son was later located at a relative's home unharmed, according to the news release.

According to the case's probable cause statement, the Jefferson City 911 Center received a 911 call from a witness stating their mother had been killed at 1115 E. McCarty St.

The witness said they received a phone call from their father, Akbari, who allegedly said he killed the witness' mother and left the house, according to the statement.

The witness told officers on scene that their 18-month-old brother was at home with their mother but was nowhere to be found, according to the statement.

An Amber Alert was issued in an effort to locate Akbari and the child, and the witness told police that Akbari was likely driving the family vehicle, according to the statement.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol located Akbari's vehicle traveling westbound in 6900 block of U.S. 50 just east of Sedalia and took him into custody, according to the statement.

Upon making contact with the family, officers discovered the 18-month-old had been dropped off at Akbari's brother's residence before he fled, according to the statement.

Akbari allegedly admitted to killing his wife and fleeing with their 18-month-old child, according to the probable cause statement. Through an interpreter, Akbari allegedly told investigators he believed there was infidelity within the marriage and accused his wife of tampering with his food, according to the statement.

Akbari is being held in the Cole County Jail without bond, according to court records. An initial court hearing has not yet been set.
