COLUMBIA — Columbia police arrested a man on charges of third-degree domestic assault, felony resisting arrest and first-degree making a terrorist threat after a standoff on Wednesday afternoon.
Christopher Dow, 34, was arrested around 5 p.m. after a standoff that lasted about three and a half hours, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
The standoff took place on Hidden Creek Court, which is a small residential street in northeast Columbia off Hanover Boulevard near where it turns into Rice Road.
Dow allegedly refused to exit the residence when police attempted to arrest him, according to the news release. Officers considered him armed and dangerous because he allegedly made threats to harm law enforcement and threatened to explode the residence, according to the news release. Officers determined Dow was the only person inside the home, according to the release.
KOMU 8 News heard an explosion and saw smoke in the area shortly before the man exited the home and was put in handcuffs on the ground. McNeill confirmed that gas canisters and flash bangs were used.
Units began clearing the scene after police made the arrest.
Dow is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond for the domestic assault charge, according to the jail roster. Formal charges for Dow were not available to view in Missouri's online court record system on Wednesday night.
KOMU 8 News saw multiple Columbia Police Department vehicles, including a tactical vehicle with a battering ram, at the scene. A K-9 unit was also at the scene. The Boone County Sheriff's Office also responded.
A school bus drove through the scene around 3:15 p.m. to take students home. Officers escorted students one by one to their homes.
