A Moberly man has been arrested and charged after prosecutors say he hid a suspect in a Randolph County murder case in a residence where he was staying, according to court documents.
Skyler Powell, 24, was charged over the weekend with hindering the prosecution of a felony, according to court records.
A probable cause statement alleges that on May 7, a suspect who was detained in connection to an investigation into a missing juvenile concealed herself in the basement of a residence where Powell was staying.
The probable cause statement does not name the suspect, but details match the detainment and arrest of Alayna Mason, 20, who is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping in connection to the disappearance and death of 16-year-old Kayla Huff. A complaint filed in Powell's case uses the initials A.M. for the person he allegedly hid.
The disappearance of Kayla Huff
The probable cause statement said a suspect stole a marked Randolph County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle while in handcuffs, abandoned the vehicle, and went to a residence on South Clark Street in Moberly where Powell was staying. Powell allegedly cut the chain on the suspect's handcuffs and allowed her to conceal herself in a basement in the residence, where law enforcement found her later in the day, according to the probable cause statement.
Powell told law enforcement he was an "overnight guest" at the residence, and he was the only person there when the handcuffed suspect arrived, according to the probable cause statement.
Mason is accused of stealing a marked Randolph County Sheriff's Office vehicle on May 7, the day after Huff went missing, before her arrest last week on a kidnapping charge in connection to Huff's disappearance. She was later charged with murder after Huff was found dead in Rudolf Bennitt Conservation Area.
Alayna Mason, Christopher Hull, Hunter Ames, Julian Mason and Skyler Powell
Three other people, 19-year-old Hunter Ames, 23-year-old Christopher Hull and 26-year-old Julian Mason, are also charged in connection to Huff's disappearance and death. The Randolph County Sheriff's Office said a 17-year-old was also arrested, but the Randolph County Juvenile Office has declined to provide any information about the 17-year-old's case.
Powell is being held at the Randolph County Jail and was arrested on a no-bond warrant, according to court records. He has an arraignment set for 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Randolph County Courthouse.
