A woman who pleaded guilty last year to a felony charge of sexual contact with a Mexico School District student has been sentenced to probation.
Janae M. Nunnelly was sentenced Monday to five years of probation, according to court records. Audrain County Judge Richard Scheibe issued the sentence, which provides that if Nunnelly violates the conditions of her probation, she will face four years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
According to previous KOMU 8 reporting, Nunnelly pleaded guilty in October 2025 to sexual contact with a student, a class E felony under Missouri law. A second count was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Nunnelly is a former Mexico School District elementary school teacher and cheer coach.
The charge stems from an incident dated June 1, 2024, which was investigated by the Mexico Public Safety Department. Court documents alleged the Nunnelly had sexual relationships with high school students.
Court records show character reference letters and confidential correspondence were submitted to the courts on Nunnelly’s behalf earlier this month.
