car show

Was your first car your all-time favorite? What about that $400 beater you bought from your neighbor’s cousin? Maybe it was the first car you and your spouse purchased together, or the brand-new Mercedes you got when you retired.

Or maybe it wasn’t a car at all. Perhaps your all-time favorite ride was the Schwinn bike you won in a childhood fishing derby or the riding mower that belonged to your grandpa. Maybe it was a tractor, a Harley, or even the golf cart you putter around in at the lake.

Jefferson County and Eureka residents of all ages are encouraged to share memories of their favorite wheels in the first-ever “My Best Ride” photo contest, sponsored by Grand Times, Leader Publications’ magazine for senior citizens.

Readers are welcome to send a photo of their “best ride” along with no more than 300 words explaining why it’s your favorite. The winner’s name will be drawn at random from all eligible entries and will receive a grand prize worth at least $200.

“It could be cash, it could be a gift certificate,” Eureka Leader editor Tony Krausz said. “It could be a combination, or something else entirely – we’re still working on that.”

The deadline to submit an entry in the contest is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15.

The Oct. 28 issue of Grand Times will feature as many entries as space allows. That issue also will include information about the Eureka Senior Expo, set for Wednesday, Nov 3, at Victorian Gardens, 15 Hilltop Village Center Drive.

Photo contest entries should include the following information:

■ Photographer’s name, age, address and phone number.

■ The make, model or type of vehicle and how you obtained it.

■ The date and place the photo was taken and by whom.

■ The names of any people in the photo.

■ Any other information about the photo that explains why it is memorable.

Send entries to: My Best Ride, c/o Leader Publications, P.O. Box 159, Festus, 63028; drop off at the Leader office, 503 N. Second St., in Festus; or email

news@leaderpublications.biz.

Photos accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope will be mailed back; others will be held for pickup.
