The Jefferson County Clerk’s Office reported the final two precincts, which were made up of absentee and early voting ballots, at about 5:55 a.m. today, after hours of working to get those ballots posted.
“There were over 40,000 registered voters who had voted before Election Day,” County Clerk Jeannie Goff posted on the county’s Election Authority website Tuesday evening.
While the office waited for those ballots to post, Goff and her staff worked to get the ballots from the 51 other precincts uploaded, and those results were in by 10:30 p.m. or so.
In all, the County Clerk’s Office counted 120,009 ballots that the county’s 166,483 registered voters cast.
That was a 72.1 percent voter turnout, which Goff said was average for a general election with a presidential race.
After the county’s last two precincts were reported, there was little change in the county or state election results.
As expected, Republicans prevailed in Tuesday’s election in both Jefferson County and the state of Missouri.
U.S. citizens also favored Republicans, with presidential candidate Donald Trump (R) winning both the popular vote and the Electoral College vote, and Republicans flipping the U.S. Senate.
Trump received the vast majority of votes in Jefferson County, besting Kamala Harris (D) with about 67 percent of the vote. In the state, he got about 58 percent.
Jefferson Countians also voted overwhelmingly for incumbent U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R), who won his bid for reelection, beating challenger Lucas Kunce (D). Hawley received about 56 percent of the statewide vote.
Republican Mike Kehoe, who had been the Missouri lieutenant governor, won the race for governor, receiving about 59 percent of the vote, to Democrat Crystal Quade’s 39 percent.
While Jefferson Countians did not support Missouri Constitutional Amendment 3, the measure won statewide, reinstating abortion rights in the state, with the amendment receiving about 52 percent yes votes.
However, Jefferson Countians, like residents across the state, voted in favor of Proposition A, which will increase the minimum wage and provide workers with paid sick leave. The proposition received about 58 percent yes votes.
Jefferson County voters gave a big thumbs-up to the $11 million bond issue the Antonia Fire Protection District was seeking to build a new firehouse, renovate House 2 and purchase up to two firetrucks over the next 20 years.
The measure required a four-sevenths (57.14 percent) majority vote for approval and received about 71 percent.
The bond issue will raise the district’s tax rate by 19.8 cents per $100 assessed valuation, increasing the rate from 90.33 cents per $100 assessed valuation to $1.1013 per $100 assessed valuation.
