A work truck recently was stolen in Barnhart and found later along a road at Lake Tishomingo near Hillsboro. The incident occurred between Dec. 8 and Dec. 9, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
A security guard called a co-owner of RG Roofing to report that one of the company’s work trucks that had been stolen from a job site in the 6000 block of Front Street in Barnhart had been recovered in the 6000 block of North Lakeshore Drive in Lake Tishomingo. The truck, a 2001 Ford F550, was valued at $7,000, a report said.
The business co-owner, who did not know the truck had been stolen, told deputies that the truck’s doors were unlocked and the key was in the vehicle when it was stolen. The person who stole the truck also left it unlocked with the key inside, so the business co-owner was able to go to the site where it was found, reclaim it and drive it away, according to the report.
As of Dec. 28, no suspects had been identified and no arrests had been made, Cpl. Matthew Moore said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
