The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about a woman’s burned body found March 9 in Sulphur Springs. As of this afternoon (March 12), the body had not been identified and authorities were seeking the public’s help to identify it, Cpl. Matthew Moore said.
The woman's death is under investigation as a homicide, Moore said.
At about 2 p.m. March 9, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from quarry workers who had been cleaning up an area in the 800 block of Sulphur Springs Road and discovered the body.
Simpson Materials has a quarry in the area.
Moore said no identification was found with the body.
He said the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was called to help with the investigation.
Moore said today that the victim’s race had not been determined, but authorities believe she was black or of mixed race.
Authorities also believe the body is that of a woman about 5-foot-5-inches tall who had a gold-capped tooth and a piercing in her cheek. She was possibly wearing green sweat pants, a green bathrobe and a long-sleeved shirt.
Moore said today there were no suspects in the homicide investigation.
