A 48-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman, both of Villa Ridge, were injured when the pickup the man was driving hit a tree on the back end of the parking lot near Dickey Bub Farm & Homes, 100 Hilltop Village Center Drive, in Eureka. The man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated, Eureka Police reported.

The accident occurred at about 6:50 p.m. Sept. 4, when the man crashed the 1995 GMC Sierra and both he and the woman got trapped inside the pickup. Eureka Fire Protection District personnel freed them from the truck, the report said.

They had minor injuries and were transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, according to the report.

Eureka Police said the man appeared intoxicated following the crash, and he allegedly admitted he had been drinking, although he said he didn’t have more than two drinks and the accident happened because he tried to take a turn too fast.

The man was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for DWI, Lt. Michael Werges said.
