Dittmer man accused of using stolen debit card in De Soto

Tyler Mataya

Tyler Steven Mataya, 28, of Dittmer is facing another felony charge in Jefferson County. He already is serving a four-year prison sentence after being convicted on four counts of burglary, one count of property damage and four counts of stealing, according to court documents.

Mataya on Sept. 11 was transferred from the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 15, court records show.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Aug. 4 charged Mataya with stealing, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, court documents said.

Mataya on Aug. 8, 2024, stole someone’s wallet, and at 5:37 a.m. and 5:39 a.m., he used a First State Community Bank debit card to make two separate purchases at the De Soto Fuels gas station, 614 Main St., according to the case’s probable-cause statement.

De Soto Police obtained a picture from the gas station’s security camera that allegedly showed Mataya using the stolen debit card. The alleged victim identified Mataya from the picture, the report said.

Mataya had been on probation for the previous charges before the most recent stealing charge. However, a Jefferson County judge in December 2024 revoked Mataya’s probation and ordered him to serve his previous sentence, court records show.
