Seven flu-related deaths and six COVID-related deaths have been reported in Jefferson County so far this respiratory season, which began Sept. 28.

Two flu deaths and two COVID-related deaths were reported in the first two weeks of March, according to the respiratory season reports released Wednesday, April 1, by the Jefferson County Health Department.

Since the respiratory season began, there have been 2,073 COVID cases reported in the county. The season peaked during the week of March 1 with 226 cases.

Since the respiratory season began, there have been 3,989 flu cases reported. Of those, 2,460 were Type A and 1,529 were Type B. The season peaked during the week of Christmas with 577 cases.

The season ends May 16.

During the 2024-2025 respiratory season, 4,117 flu cases and 3,242 COVID cases were reported to the Health Department. The season peaked at 733 flu cases during the week of Feb. 2 and COVID cases peaked the week of Dec. 22 at 233. Fourteen flu-related deaths and 20 COVID-related deaths were reported last year.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get an annual influenza (flu) vaccine, especially those at higher risk. The CDC recommends an updated COVID vaccine for most adults.
