Tina Louise Hammers, 54, of Mineral Point has been accused of stealing almost $13,000 from the De Soto Amvets Ladies Auxiliary Post 48. She allegedly stole the money between Oct. 1, 2023, and April 3, according to court documents.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on June 26 charged Hammers with stealing more than $750, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, court records show.

A De Soto Police detective interviewed Hammers on June 5 at the Amvets Post 48, 1075 Amvets Drive, in De Soto. When the detective asked Hammers to speak with him, she said she “wanted to get this over with,” the case’s probable-cause statement said.

Hammers allegedly admitted to stealing $12,928.15 over approximately a year-and-a-half period. She told the detective she was struggling to make ends meet at home and planned to return the money, the report said.

Hammers is scheduled to appear in Jefferson County Court on Aug. 11, court records said.
