A man who lives at a home in the 4700 block of Tishomingo Road north of Hillsboro said he confronted someone breaking into his pickup, and the culprit allegedly pointed a gun at him but then ran away. The suspect reportedly damaged the truck but did not steal anything, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The suspect reportedly got inside the victim’s 2003 GMC Sonoma on Aug. 14. The victim said the would-be-thief had long, dark hair and was wearing glasses and a red hat, the report said.

The victim said the pickup was locked, and deputies discovered damage to the vehicle's passenger-side door, ignition and steering column. The Sheriff’s Office didn’t have an estimate for the damage.

As of Aug. 25, the suspect had not been located, spokesman Grant Bissell said. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
