The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a 32-year-old St. Louis man suspected of shooting a 25-year-old Bonne Terre man on Boyd Branch Road near Hwy. JJ in the Valles Mines area, Lt. Gary Higginbotham says.
At about 8 p.m. Feb. 23, after the Bonne Terre man and his girlfriend picked up a friend who needed a ride, they were driving on Boyd Branch Road and a red Ford Taurus approached, so both vehicles stopped, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
That’s when the suspect, who had exited the Taurus, approached the victim and began firing a pistol, striking the victim once in the right hand, the report said.
After the victim drove away from the scene, he went to a hospital in Bonne Terre, where a Jefferson County deputy went to interview him, according to the report.
Higginbotham said he believes the suspect had a dispute with the victim.
Deputies found several items at the scene of the shooting that were taken as evidence, the report said.
As of Tuesday afternoon (March 1), the Sheriff’s Office had not located the suspect, Higginbotham said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
