The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a recent burglary at a home in the 3000 block of Highland House Villas Court in the Arnold area, where two guns were stolen. The burglary occurred between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. June 16, while the victim was away, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A Marlin Glenfield .22 rifle and a Hi-Point .40-caliber semiautomatic rifle loaded with 10 rounds were stolen, along with the black plastic gun case they had been stored in. Altogether, the items were valued at $373, the report said.
The victim told deputies he suspects that a neighbor stole the items. The victim said he had spent the night at the neighbor’s home the night before the theft. In addition, the victim said he couldn’t find his house key the next morning before he went to work, and then when he returned home late that afternoon, found his guns missing, according to the report.
There were no signs of forced entry into the home and all the doors were locked, the report said.
Deputies went to the neighbor’s home but the person the victim suspected was not there. The Sheriff’s Office hasn’t named that person as a suspect, just a person of interest, Lt. Gary Higginbotham said today (June 28).
That person of interest is currently on parole stemming from charges for possession of a controlled substance and stealing a firearm. In addition, the person of interest allegedly is a heroin user, the report said.
