A 52-year-old man was found dead Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 14) south of Festus from a possible drug overdose, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Today (Aug. 15), Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said authorities received a call at about 4:35 p.m. from an area called the Slab next to Plattin Creek about the incident. The man’s last known address was in Sullivan, Bissell said.
“Deputies responded for a report of an unconscious male on the beach area for a possible overdose,” Bissell said. “Upon arrival deputies and EMS crews confirmed the male was deceased. During the investigation, they located an acquaintance of the man sitting in a vehicle nearby also in and out of consciousness, possibly under the influence of narcotics. Upon speaking to her, she advised she and the deceased male had been using meth and heroin throughout the day and he also used some fentanyl.”
The man’s name will not be released until next of kin is notified, Bissell said.
