A pickup left unlocked and running was stolen while the victim was inside the Express Mart, 999 W. Gannon Drive, in Festus. The theft happened Jan. 11, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
He said the victim is a 27-year-old Festus man.
“About 7 p.m., officers responded to a call of the theft of a 2001 Ford F-250 truck parked outside the Express Mart,” Lewis said. “He left the keys in, the engine running and the doors open.
“From surveillance cameras, it looks like a white male wearing a flat-bill ball cap backwards and in a black jacket, gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes walks up to it, looks around, enters and drives off.”
Lewis said he had no estimate for the value of the pickup.
As of Jan. 12, the pickup had not been recovered and no arrests had been made, he said. Anyone with information is asked to call Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
Lewis said thefts of unlocked, running vehicles are all too common during the cold weather months.
“Don’t leave your keys in the vehicle and leave it running,” he advised. “Lock your doors.”
