About 50 feet of phone line recently was stolen at Hwy. E and Klondike Road in the De Soto area, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.
It was the second time in about a two-week period that phone line was stolen from that area, the report said.
In addition, a telephone pole was damaged. AT&T owns the equipment, and the stolen line and damage to the pole were estimated at $2,800, according to the report.
The latest incident occurred between 9 p.m. Dec. 31 and 7 a.m. Jan. 1.
Phone service was temporarily disrupted in the area, said Lt. Gary Higginbotham of the Sherriff’s Office.
As of Monday (Jan. 11), the cable had not been recovered, and there were no suspects or arrests, he said.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
