A 22-year-old Pevely man suspected of stealing several vehicles around the county has been arrested. He was arrested at about 9:45 p.m. March 31, about an hour after he allegedly stole an SUV from outside a home in the 400 block of Elm Street in Pevely, said Capt. Larry Miller of the Pevely Police Department.
He said a 38-year-old woman reported that she had parked her 2018 GMC Terrain on Elm Street at about 8:30 pm., and while she was inside her home looking for keys her boyfriend had misplaced earlier in the day, she heard the vehicle start. She looked outside and saw a man wearing a blue beanie hat behind the wheel driving away with the vehicle.
“We were later notified at approximately 9:45 p.m. that the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office had been involved in a pursuit with the vehicle and successfully used a spike strip to stop the vehicle without incident,” Miller said.
He said the Sheriff’s Office arrested the man, and the vehicle was later returned to the owner with only damaged tires.
Miller said the man also is suspected of stealing a 1978 Chevrolet pickup from the Mobil On the Run in Pevely on March 21; a 2005 Acura MDX from Byrnes Mill on March 12; a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt from the 800 block of Pinson Court in Pevely on Feb. 19; and a 2010 Jeep Liberty from Pevely Pointe Apartments on January 18.
The suspect was booked and then released pending application for warrants, Miller said.
