$20 bill

Counterfeit $20 bills were passed in at least two Jefferson County communities last week.

Pevely Police said one incident was reported Sept. 13 when an employee of the I-55 Motor Plaza on Hwy. Z tried to deposit a $20 bill several times in a drop box and it wouldn’t accept the bill because it was fake.

Pevely Police Chief Ron Weeks said his department forwarded the bill and a report to the U. S. Secret Service office in St. Louis.

Weeks said his department encounters counterfeit bills occasionally.

“We had one or two earlier in the year, also at a gas station,” he said.

Crystal City Police reported that a bogus $20 bill had been passed Sept. 12 at J.J. Cummerford Stadium during a Crystal City High School football game.
