A 30-year-old Pacific man was arrested for alleged possession of methamphetamine following a traffic stop in Eureka. He also was wanted on warrants from the Eureka, Kirkwood and St. Louis County police departments, authorities reported.

At about 4:40 p.m. March 19, a Eureka Police officer stopped a 2009 Pontiac G6 on West Fifth Street near Central Avenue after the city’s Flock Safety license plate-reading cameras detected a stolen license plate on the car. Later the officer discovered the man was wanted on multiple traffic warrants, the report said.

The man reportedly told the officer he had needles in his jacket pocket, and the officer allegedly found a container in the man’s jacket, and inside the container were three needles and a spoon with what appeared to be drug residue on it. The officer also reportedly found a cigarette packet in the car that contained a white crystal-like substance that appeared to be meth, and the man

allegedly told the officer he purchased meth in St. Louis, according to the report.

The man was taken to the Eureka Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants. Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, Lt. Michael Werges said.
