De Soto Police officers and a suicidal man sustained minor injuries in an Oct. 8 tussle that ended with the man being subdued with a Taser and taken to a local hospital.

Officers responded to a call just before 7 p.m. about a suicide attempt in the 400 block of Fletcher Street, Police Chief Rick Draper reported.

When police arrived, the man was lying in bed. He was uncooperative and refused to provide officers with any information, Draper reported.

The 42-year-old man eventually told officers he had taken 90 pills of a controlled substance, Draper reported.

The man got up and was speaking to officers when he became enraged, defied police commands and charged one of the officers, according to the report.

Officers had to use physical force and used a Taser twice to restrain the man, Draper reported.

The man was then transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

“Injuries sustained by the officers and the subject were minor,” Draper reported.
