A Festus-area man allegedly threatened to kill a woman, who he was in a relationship with, and a child at a Pevely hotel. The man had previously pleaded guilty to at least four misdemeanor domestic assault charges, according to court documents.
Nathaniel Jacob Grass, 26, who lives west of Festus, on May 19 was charged with fourth-degree domestic assault, a class E felony due to it being a third or subsequent domestic assault charge, and second-degree property damage, a class B misdemeanor, court records said.
As of Thursday, May 22, he was being held on a $10,000 cash-only bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court documents show.
Pevely Police were called on May 18 to the Super 8 hotel, 1711 Hwy. Z, after Grass allegedly threatened the woman and child. He allegedly said he would bash the woman’s head in, slit her and her family’s throats and beat her and the child, according to the case’s probable-cause statement.
Grass was allegedly heard making the threats in a video the woman took of him and during her call to 911. Police also believe Grass pulled the radio out of a 2005 Ford Explorer that the woman had driven to the hotel, the report said.
Grass pleaded guilty to at least four misdemeanor fourth-degree domestic assault charges in August 2022 for incidents in Jefferson County. He was sentenced to 101 days after pleading guilty to the charges, court records said.
A class E felony is punishable by up to four years in prison, and a class B misdemeanor carries a penalty of up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
