Cedar Hill woman faces drug, gun charges

Mary Ann Adams

Mary Ann Adams, 50, of Cedar Hill was recently charged with felony drug and gun possession and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was on probation for previous drug convictions at the time of her arrest, court records show.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Apil 4 charged Adams with unlawful possession of a firearm, a class C felony, possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor, according to court documents.

As of April 11, Adams was being held on a $20,000 cash-only bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records said.

Adams was stopped by a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Sept. 24, 2024, for driving a car that had license plates registered to a different vehicle. The deputy allegedly found an unloaded gun, a bag with a crystal-like substance that later tested positive as methamphetamine, a glass pipe with residue, several unused plastic bags and a digital scale in the car, the report said.

Adams was on five years’ probation at the time of the arrest. She had pleading guilty to drug possession charges in November 2021 and drug trafficking and drug possession charges in February 2023, court records show.

In 2021, Adams was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of possession of a controlled substance, but that sentence was suspended and she was placed on probation, according to court documents.

In 2023, she was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree drug trafficking and three counts of possession of a controlled substance, but that sentence also was suspended and she was placed on probation, court records show.

A class C felony is punishable by three to 10 years in prison, and a class D felony carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison. A class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Lindsay Whalen is prosecuting the case.
